It doesn’t get much more rock n roll than this. Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ll no doubt be aware that the most influential music conference in the world, South By Southwest (SXSW) is currently underway in Austin.
It’s one of the biggest dates on the musical calendar that sees scores of bands from around the world descend on Texas, including 52 Aussie bands this year who were invited to make the annual trek in the hope of raising a few eyebrows on their quest for the big breakthrough.
Amongst their ranks are the likes of Bliss N Eso, Big Scary, Twerps, Husky, Lanie Lane, and Tone Deaf favourites DZ Deathrays who have already made a splash and earned some serious rockstar stripes by getting kicked off stage at their first performance at the conference for being too loud.
“DZ Deathrays just played their first show at SXSW which was in the conference’s convention centre, was a great turn out and we’re really grateful for Sounds Australia, Stage Mothers and Sideshow Alley for putting on a killer show,” DZ Deathray’s label manager Johann Ponniah told Tone Deaf this morning.
“Basically the boys got a few songs in and were then told they were too loud for the venue because vendors close by couldn’t talk over their music and the sound was cut off and they were forced to stop.
“[It] was a shame because there was a cool crowd but it was out of our control. Henry Wagons and Big Scary played before them and they were dope!”
The boys will get another chance to play in front of the crowds however this Saturday when they play one of the highlights of the conference at The Aussie BBQ which is celebrating its tenth year at the festival. The Aussie BBQ will then travel to New York City with a number of musicians such as Big Scary, Busby Marou, and Jonti.
